Many couples and families are sitting around the kitchen table worried about how much they are able to spend on groceries, gas, college tuition and many other costs that seem to rise as often as the morning sun. They are having civil conversation and working together to find the most cost effective and most sensible answers to their problems.  Elected leaders need to do the same. If families can approach problems with vigor, optimism, and teamwork, many issues may be resolved over time. 

I make these rather obvious observations with the hope and expectation that as Kentucky’s next State Treasurer, I will apply a common sense approach to address and help remedy this situation that is so daunting for middle class Kentucky families. I am well aware of the common plight of the working class people in Kentucky and am philosophically and morally committed to help them by all reasonable means.  While I am well aware that the position of Treasurer in our form of government is principally vested only with ministerial powers, the position, nevertheless, can also serve as a constitutional platform to influence positive governmental action. I will do just that.

Since 1792, the first State Treasurer, John Logan, was called upon for his experience to institute positive standardized financial transactions. Nearly 220 years later, experience is again called upon to effectively and efficiently manage the state’s financial system. In these uncertain economic times, the office holder must adhere to transparency, accountability and efficiency.

I not only possess these characteristics, but my economic development background provides an understanding of the dilemmas of the working person. As a small business owner, I believe in hard work, communication and relentless commitment to moving forward. My experience will enhance the Treasurer’s Office into the 21st century making it more effective, more secure, and more efficient.
